As an academic advisor, Jil is committed to providing our adult learners with the tools needed for success. She has a strong research interest in the engagement of retired athletes entering higher education as adult learners. Jil has been involved with the Continuing Adult and Professional Studies Division since 2004 and has served as both a full-time academic advisor and a part-time adjunct faculty member. She is an active member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE). Jil first joined us from Drexel University, where she held a senior position in the financial aid office.

Jil holds a bachelor of arts degree in history and political science from Cabrini College, a master's degree in higher education administration from Temple University, and is currently working on her doctoral degree in higher education administration at Temple University.

Dr. Lemon began teaching at Neumann in 2007 in the Division of Arts & Sciences as adjunct faculty and currently teaches graduate level courses in the Strategic Leadership Program. He has also served as a member of the adjunct faculty at Delaware County Community College. Dr. Lemon holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Pennsylvania (2007). His dissertation was entitled, "The Construction of Ethnoracial Identity within Situational Contexts." He also holds a Master's degree in Instructional Media from West Chester University, and an A.B. in English Literature from St. Joseph's University.

 

Prior to his work in academia, Dr. Lemon had an extensive career in the fields of social services, communications, and community education. His areas of academic interest include social anthropology, cultural diversity, world affairs, immigration, belief systems, African American history, Native American history, and pre-Columbian America. His personal interests include music, literature, the arts, film and television, gardening, and ethnic cuisines. As a member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), he finds the Franciscan values on which the University stands, extremely relevant and inspiring.


One of his favorite quotes is from the great Irish poet William Butler Yeats: “The purpose of education is not to fill a bucket, but to light a fire.”

Jackie joins our division with a passion for higher education and lifelong learning.  “Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.” – Emerson.  As an academic advisor, Jackie works with students in the undergraduate degree programs.  She also leads adult student programs and initiatives, including the Learning Exchange programs with Career Development and Alumni Affairs, and manages enrollments and advising with Corporate Partners. At present, Jackie is the Assistant Program Chair for the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE) for the MidAtlantic Region. 

 

Jackie holds a B.A. in Political Science and M.S. in Higher Education Counseling from West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
