Junior Shantel Shaw is a member of the newly formed Praise Dancers at Neumann. Formed in 2010, the group welcomes Shantel as its president this fall. “I wanted to be part of something with ministry. I show God my worship through dancing,” she said. “One of my favorite memories here is our first performance. A lot of people came out, my family came, and a few of the sisters came to see us as well. It was great to have them here to support us.”
“I came to Neumann for its education program. They let you start field experience as a freshman, rather than in your junior year. I feel like that lets you know earlier if education is the right choice for you. Also the triple certification program (special ed, Pre-k-5, 5-8) was another big draw for me,” she said. After graduation Shantel hopes to open a daycare with her mother and aunt and then go on to graduate school and teach second grade.
Shantel will also begin as a Neumann Navigator this fall, giving prospective students campus tours. “I am excited to show students it is a family here, that you’re a name and not a number. The teachers know you by your first and last name,” she said.
