What kind of accounts will I use while I attend Neumann University?

Email Account: The official channel of communication at Neumann. Each student receives an email address when they register for classes; your email account is username@neumann.edu

Network Account: This account is used to log into computers on campus. Your network account allows you to access network drives, print in our labs, search the internet, & check email while on Neumann’s campus.

WebCT Account: Is a Web-based distance learning system. In WebCT professors post syllabi and course material, post and collect assignments, and it is used as a tool for class discussion.

WebAdvisor Account: WebAdvisor allows you to search for available courses, see your course schedule, & check your grades as well as your billing information.

What is my User Id for each of these accounts?

Neumann has One User ID for All accounts; your ID is comprised of the first letter of your first name, the first letter of your middle name, followed by an underscore ( _ ) and then the first 8 letters of your last name.

If you do not have a middle name on record we take the second letter of your first name. If your ID is a repeat we add a number to the end of your ID.

**When entering your ID make sure it is all lowercase**

Examples:
John Robert Smith = jr_smith
John Smith = jo_smith
Sally Unterberger = sa_unterber
John Smith = jo_smith2

How do I make sure my computer settings are correct so Bb Vista will work properly on my computer?

At either the "Institution Listing" or "Log In" screen there is a "Check Browser" link. Select the "Check Browser" link and it will check to see if your browser is configured properly.

What it checks for:

A. Browser Check: This validates your browser works with WebCT Vista. We recommended you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.

B. Cookies Checked: Vista uses cookies to keep track of your current session. You must have cookies enabled so we can maintain your current state as you navigate through the application.

C. JavaScript Check: Almost every part of Vista relies on JavaScript for the ability to generate interactive web pages. You must have JavaScript enabled to do anything in Vista.

D. Pop-up Window Check: Vista takes advantage of pop-up windows as a powerful way to deliver content in an organized fashion. You must have pop-up windows enabled or certain parts of Vista may not function properly.

E. Java Check: Vista uses Java to provide rich user-interface and to enable a better user experience. Without Java, certain tools in Vista will not function correctly.

Can I upload anything I want? What should I know about Fair Use?

You may upload any type of document that is less than 50-100 mb in size, but it is best to upload content in web-friendly formats, such as Adobe PDF or web page format (HTML). Contact Neumann's Media Services group (media@neumann.edu or 610.361.5315) if you need to share larger audio and video files.

It is good to have copyright clearance for materials that you upload, but you may upload materials that meet the Fair Use guidelines. Opinions differ on how strictly these guidelines should be followed, so we offer links to several sites. Links open in new windows.
