The Neumann University Department of Campus Safety in collaboration with Sunstates Security Services is available 24 hours a day, every day. It provides a variety of services to ensure that the campus community is safe. The Department strives to achieve this mission by fair and equitable enforcement of University policies and federal, state, and local laws with sensitivity to the diversity of its population. It also serves the University community by providing oversight and assistance in safety matters, crime prevention programs, and response to emergency situations.

Campus Safety officers (who are unsworn) conduct patrols in campus buildings, grounds and parking lots, residential halls and provide a Campus Safety presence for University athletic events and other campus activities. As part of their patrol responsibilities, officers regularly observe and report any facility maintenance problems to ensure that any deficiencies or hazardous conditions are quickly addressed. In addition, the Department is constantly on alert to issues such as proper lighting, landscaping, dark and concealed walkways and other areas, and campus conditions generally to endeavor for consistency with sound Campus Safety principles.

The Mission of the Neumann University Department of Campus Safety is to provide a safe, secure and peaceful environment to learn, live, work and visit. The Campus Safety Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is strongly committed to work in partnership with the Neumann community to protect and preserve the human and physical assets of the Institution. The Department of Campus Safety supports the mission of Neumann University which reflects the spirit and values of St. Francis of Assisi while offering a catholic co-educational environment in the Franciscan tradition.

It is the general policy of Neumann University to encourage prompt and accurate reporting of crimes either directly to the Department of Campus Safety, local municipal police (Aston) or to the Dean of Students, Director of Housing and Residence Life or the Neumann University Human Resource, Risk Management Office.

The Neumann University Department of Campus Safety is under the administrative responsibility of the Vice President for Human Resources and Risk Management. As mandated, the Department of Campus Safety annually reports crime statistics using standards and definitions of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Uniform Crime Reporting system (UCR). In addition, crime statistics are also submitted annually to the Department of Education.

To report a crime or an emergency, anyone can call 610-558-5555. Calling this number will connect the caller to the Campus Safety Communications Center which will generate an immediate response. In the event of a serious crime or other emergency, students, staff, faculty, and visitors may also call 911. Delaware County has a 911 system in place for police, fire, and medical emergency calls.

Student ID cards may be obtained from the Campus Safety office located at the Rocco A. Abessinio Building in room 123. ID cards are required for use of the University library, computer lab, meal plan and to gain access to residence halls and some athletic facilities. Lost or stolen ID cards may be replaced by going to the Business Office, located in room 104 in the Bachmann Main Building. After paying a $25.00 fee for a lost or stolen ID card, bring the receipt to the Campus Safety Office in the Rocco Abessinio Building, Room 123, for a replacement card. The Campus Safety office also offers the option to sign a voucher which will allow your account to be billed for the $25.00 fee. Only one active ID card is permitted per person. Old, inactive ID cards must be returned to the Campus Safety Department. Nursing students attending clinicals may receive an additional ID for that specific purpose.

Parking Information

All students, faculty and staff must register their motor vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle) with Campus Safety to legally park on University property. Failure to display a registration permit on the vehicle shall subject the vehicle to ticketing and/or towing. This requirement will always be enforced. Failure to register a vehicle will result in a fine of $20 per offense.

Operators of vehicles on campus are expected to follow all traffic and parking signage, street markings and curb markings..

Parking permits may be obtained from the Campus Safety office located at the Rocco A. Abessinio Building in room 123. Campus Safety officers are available to assist with vehicle registration during the day and evening hours. Monday through Friday. For additional information, call Campus Safety at 610-558-5555.

To register for a parking permit, students' faculty and staff must present a valid college ID for verification. The information needed for the vehicle to be registered include the year, make, model, color, and the state license plate number. Multiple vehicles are permitted to be registered with Campus Safety.

There is no cost for registration and a vehicle is registered only when a valid parking permit issued for that vehicle is properly displayed.

No liability is created by the granting of parking or vehicle operating privileges on property owned, leased, or otherwise controlled by the University. The University assumes no responsibility for the care or protection of vehicles or their contents while operated or parked on University property. The Campus Safety Department and the Aston Township Police Department patrol University parking facilities and enforce regulations.

Articles found on campus should be taken to the Campus Safety Communications Center in the Rocco Abessinio Building, Room 100, where they may be claimed.

Although every effort is made to provide protection for students' personal property, the University cannot assume responsibility for the loss of a students' belongings. We ask that everyone join the Department of Campus Safety in a spirit of shared responsibility for property. Here are some commonsense tips to help protect personal belongings.

  • Never leave valuables such as purses, wallets, credit cards, keys and computer unattended.
  • Don't lend or give your room key to anyone.
  • Never tell anyone your PIN for your ATM or other bank machine account.
  • Record information such as serial numbers and keep them in a safe place.
  • Never leave your room unlocked, even for a few minutes.
  • Always lock your vehicle; don't leave valuables in view; secure them in the glove compartment or trunk.
  • Always lock your bike when leaving outside a secure area.

The Department of Campus Safety is responsible for all fire safety programs at the University. Officers respond whenever a fire alarm is activated in any campus building. If a fire alarm sounds, all persons should leave the building immediately and proceed to a safe location away from the building. Students should follow directions provided by campus Safety officers and other University staff and faculty members. Students should take the time to be familiar with exit pathways in all campus buildings.
