As of Fall 2017, Neumann University is no longer accepting applications to our Certificate Programs in Spiritual Formation and Direction (SFD), including the 24-credit Certificate in Spiritual Formation and Direction and the 15-credit Certificate of Advanced Study in Spiritual Formation & Direction Supervision (CAS). The SFD program will close in May 2018, when our current cohort of students completes their studies.

If you are one of the many graduates, supervisors or faculty members who have participated in our Spiritual Formation and Direction programs over the years, please watch for coming information on a celebration of the contributions of this program, tentatively planned for spring 2018.

The Spiritual Formation and Direction Program at Neumann University welcomes experienced and new directors into a learning community to study the history of Christian spirituality and to practice the art of spiritual companioning.
Since 1990, our Spiritual Formation and Direction program has encouraged dialogue among an ecumenical group of women, men, lay, religious and clergy who value exploring diverse spiritual tradition and practicing the art of spiritual direction.  Dedicated, experienced faculty and supervisors assist students to interpret their experience in order to support others in their own discernment.  Rooted in the Francis tradition, the program fosters intentional awareness of and response to God’s revelation to all of creation.

Neumann's program is affiliated with Spiritual Directors International (SDI), "a learning community committed to advancing spiritual direction around the world." Our program joins a host of others offering spiritual direction formation in an academic setting to integrate spiritual direction theory with experiential practice. All facets of the program focus on ecumenical and interfaith perspectives of spiritual ministry to equip mentors to accompany seekers who desire to live reflectively and to respond in freedom to life’s challenges.
