Rugby Arrives This Fall

Neumann will add rugby as a club sport for the 2012-13 season.

According to Director of Athletics and Recreation Chuck Sack, “We are excited to add the rugby club to our community. We feel this will be wonderful fit between Neumann University and this sport.”

Geoff Karabin will be the head coach for the new program. Sack shared, “Geoff brings a great deal of experience to our new club program. We are looking forward to building a top level rugby club for the Neumann University community.”

Coach Karabin has an L1 referee certification and was named the head referee at the Boys’ Pennsylvania High School State Championship in 2011. Through his athletic career, Karabin earned six awards in rugby and cross country. He was inducted into the Loyola Ignation Athletic Society at Loyola College for excellence both in the classroom and on the field.

“I look forward to leading a Neumann University rugby team that will focus on building character and spirit via a commitment to athletic excellence,” said coach Karabin. “This is an exciting chapter in Neumann's history and all of us on the team will strive to represent Neumann well.”

Coach Karabin graduated from Loyola in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy. He then received two master’s degrees in Philosophy from Katholieke Universiteit (2003) and Villanova University (2007). Karabin is currently an instructor at Neumann University, Lincoln University and Villanova University. He was awarded his Ph.D. from Villanova in May 2012.
