Neumann will serve as a practice facility for some teams participating in the USA Sevens Rugby National Collegiate Championships on June 4-5 at PPL Park in Chester. There are 16 teams in the men’s tournament and eight teams in the women’s championship.
Video footage of practices held at Neumann from May 31 to June 3 may be included by NBC 10 in its pre-game shows, prior to the broadcast of tournament matches. It is not yet known which teams will practice at Neumann.
Participating men’s teams in the 2011 tournament include Arizona, Army, Boston College, California, Central Washington, Dartmouth, Louisiana State, Navy, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Temple, Texas and defending champion Utah.
Rugby Sevens features seven players per team instead of the more traditional 15. Matches are played on the same size pitch as the 15-per-side contests with seven-minute halves. Rugby Sevens will be an Olympic spots starting in 2016.
