The Mock Trial Club at Neumann University will host a mock trial on Thursday,
April 28, at 7 p.m. in the Fred P. Meagher Theatre in the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr.
Honorable George A. Pagano will portray the judge for the mock trial with a host of local lawyers including Stephen D. Ford, Lyn B. Schoenfeld, Nathaniel C. Nichols, Richard M. Capelli, and Jonathan Peri serving as jurors. The fictional case involves a Ponzi scheme and a possible murder.
On the night of October 27, 2008, Ophile Sarat, a financial analyst at Alwinjo Investments, planned to confront her/his boss Legan Arabach over what Sarat believed was a Ponzi scheme being run out of Alwinjo. Sarat’s roommate, Shay Tinto, drove Sarat to the Alwinjo building and watched as Sarat entered through the front doors. Sarat was never seen again.
The Mock Trial Club was started by Frank Altamuro in December 2010. “Mock trial is a great experience, it broadens a persons horizons in the field of law and gives them opportunities to meet veterans who can potentially lead them to a point of direction for his or her career,” said Altamuro.
General admission is $5 with all proceeds going to benefit the Catholic Relief Services for victims of Japan's tsunami. The event is free for Neumann students and staff.
