Zach Sell, of Neumann's men’s soccer team, has been named to the 2010 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area men’s soccer team, announced Tuesday. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.
This is the third year the athletic training major has been named All-Area.
Earlier this year, Sell was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. He was also named to the first team All-Conference for the third straight season. On the National scene, Sell was named to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-America ® College Division first team and the All-District first team.
Sell finished the 2010 season with 28 points (8 goals, 12 assists). His 12 assists ranked him ninth in Division III. The senior played in all 20 contests, including the team’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament. For his career, Sell owns two records, one with 67 points and the other with 21 assists. He finished second on the list with 23 goals and five game-winning goals.
Neumann finished this season 14-4-2 overall and 9-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC). The 14 wins marked a program best since it started in 1997. The Knights won their first conference championship over Marywood University in 2010. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie after regulation and two overtimes. Neumann prevailed 6-5 in penalty kicks.
